Chocolate and yoghurt-covered pretzels
Happy Thursday and welcome to our new members.
Ever since I decided to give pretzels dipped in chocolate a go, it’s like I have become a born again. My previously mundane life has now been filled with purpose and meaning. If eating pretzels dipped in chocolate was a religion, I would be in the temple every day. Hallelujah ! Hallelujah! Can you taste the flavour! Sorry, but, well, I’m a little zealous at this stage of early conversion so bear with me. I have even invented a salted dulce de leche pretzel roll, which is to die for, but that sermon is for another day.
This double dipped pretzel is another level. It has the sweetness of the first dip in milk chocolate followed by a second dip in my homemade fruit yoghurt (recipe for yoghurt is on the website). The salty flavoured pretzel, accompanied by the sweetness of milk chocolate followed, by the tarty fruity yoghurt is a fusion of flavours that will make a convert out of any doubter. If the naughty, the salty and the healthy got together and created a love child, this would be it (sure a child can have three parents, it’s a very modern dish, hey it’s a blended family to flavours). You just gotta make it.
As for myself, I have stopped making these little twisted darlings, because I have lost all control. I just keep going to the freezer and eating one after the other. When my partner asks me what happened to the double-dipped pretzels I just give him a puzzled look and say, “What, they’re gone?”. I am sooo tricky!
Ingredients
250g milk or dark chocolate melted
200g pretzel twists
My home made fruit flavoured yoghurt
Line a flat baking tray with baking paper, place the tray in the freezer for 20-30 min.
Fill a small saucepan with 5cm of water, place the saucepan on the smallest burner on high heat. Bring the water to the boil. Lower the heat to a very gentle simmer and place a slightly bigger heat-proof bowl on top of the saucepan (I used a slightly larger heat proof bowl to make sure it doesn’t touch the hot water and burn the chocolate.)
Break up the chocolate and add to the bowl, stirring constantly making sure that all the chocolate melts consistently, this can take 3-4 min.
Once chocolate has completely melted, turn off the heat.
Dip the pretzel in the chocolate until completely covered in chocolate.
Place in the freezer until chocolate has solidified again and doesn’t melt in your hand when you handle it.
Dip chocolate covered pretzel half way into yoghurt and repeat with remaining pretzels. Place in the freezer until yoghurt has frozen.
Enjoy
